HandyNotes for Lunar Festival Updated to Version 1.2

The annual Lunar Festival will be starting once again, this time on February 16th rather than the usual early January. In preparation of the event’s arrival, a new version of HandyNotes for Lunar Festival was made available this morning.

This is a fairly major update which includes an “automatic on/off switch” of sorts. The addon is now able to detect when the event has started and will place marker icons on the worldmap and minimap without requiring the user to log out or reload the UI first. Similarly, the addon will also hide the icons automatically after the event has ended.

The way the addon handles Elder NPCs you have already visited has also been overhauled. Blizzard’s IsQuestFlaggedComplete() API has proven to be unsuitable for our needs, so the addon now uses an internal table of completed quests that is updated every time a quest is completed. This new method should fix marker icons remaining on the minimap after you visit an Elder.

These changes should make HandyNotes for Lunar Festival better than ever before, however if you encounter any problems please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

The new version of HandyNotes for Lunar Festival is available to download from Curse and requires HandyNotes to work. Remember that the map pins will only appear while the Lunar Festival is active!

The 2015 Lunar Festival will start on February 16th and will end on March 2nd. Good luck!

  • Removed Cartographer support as the addon has been dead for years.

HandyNotes for Lunar Festival Updated to Version 1.1.5

Today’s update to HandyNotes for Lunar Festival is a fairly minor one which adds some quality-of-life changes to make finding the Elders even easier than before.

As of Version 1.1.5, the addon now displays the locations of Elders inside dungeon instances on the zone and continent maps. The marker pins are placed either at the dungeon entrance itself (for example, Zul’Farrak and Gundrak) or at the entrance of the cave where the dungeon entrance is located inside (for example, Sunken Temple and Maraudon).

The new version of HandyNotes for Lunar Festival is available to download from Curse and requires HandyNotes to work.

As always, if you have any questions or feedback please do not hesitate to get in touch!

Official Changelog:
v1.1.4 to v1.1.5

  • Marker pins for Elder NPCs inside dungeons now appear on the zone and continent maps.

HandyNotes for Lunar Festival Updated to Version 1.1.4

The Lunar Festival will be starting again soon and a new version of HandyNotes for Lunar Festival was released this morning in preparation for the upcoming event.

The biggest change in this version is that the marker pins for the Lunar Festival Elder NPCs now appear on the world map at continent level, similar to how the bonfires are displayed in HandyNotes for Midsummer Festival. The pins will disappear from the world map as you visit each Elder, so you no longer need to click on each individual zone to find any Elders you may have missed.

There are currently no options to turn this new feature off, but if the community requests it I will look into making one.

The new version of HandyNotes for Lunar Festival is available to download from Curse and requires HandyNotes to work. Please note that the map pins will only appear while the Lunar Festival is active!

The 2014 Lunar Festival will start on January 20th and will end on February 2nd. Good luck!

Official Changelog:
v1.1.2 to v1.1.4

  • Flagged as up-to-date with Patch 5.4.
  • Increased the accuracy of the map pins and fixed a few misplaced ones.
  • Marker pins for Elder NPCs in zones and capital cities now show on the continent map.
  • Fixed Elder Morndeep’s pin to appear in Blackrock Depths, where he is, instead of Blackrock Caverns, where he isn’t.
  • Fixed Elder Morningdew’s pin not being removed from the map after collecting her coin.

HandyNotes for Lunar Festival Updated Again

Version 1.1.2 of HandyNotes for Lunar Festival was released earlier today. This updates solves a few issues with “phased” zones, such as Uldum and Mount Hyjal.

Patch Notes:

  • Fixed map marker pins not always showing up in “phased” zones.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented waypoints from being created in “phased” zones.
  • Added the name of the Elder NPC to the context menu.

You can download the new version here.

The Lunar Festival will end on February 9th 2013 so unless any other problems appear, development of this addon will begin to slow down.

HandyNotes for Lunar Festival Updated to Version 1.1

Version 1.1 of HandyNotes for Lunar Festival was released on Curse a few minutes ago which should solve the startup issues experienced by… pretty much everyone who installed the addon.

The bug was caused by me using a simple date check to determine if the Lunar Festival was active in-game or not, but this turned out to cause a lot more problems than I intended to solve.

So I removed it. The addon should now load properly for everyone.

An unfortunate side-effect of this is that any unvisited Elders will now show up on the worldmap and the minimap all the time instead of only during the Lunar Festival. I highly recommend that, if the marker pins are getting in the way, you disable or uninstall the addon when the Lunar Festival ends in early February.

This new version also fixes the marker pins of Elder Primestone and Elder Windtotem, with thanks going to GitHub user killerpommes for the patch.

I am very sorry for the inconveniences caused by this. I tried to be clever, but it didn’t work out this time. It will not happen again.
